Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as facial acupuncture or acupuncture facelift, is an ancient practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Unlike Botox and fillers, which involve injections of chemicals or substances to reduce wrinkles and enhance facial features, cosmetic acupuncture takes a holistic approach. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the face and body to stimulate the body's natural healing processes, boost collagen production and stimulate blood flow as well as addressing any underlying disharmony in the body, providing a completely holistic approach to beauty.
The origins of cosmetic acupuncture can be traced back to ancient China, where it was employed not only for aesthetic purposes but also to promote overall health and well-being. The Chinese have long believed that the face reflects the overall health of the body, and by addressing imbalances and promoting the flow of energy (Qi), one can achieve not only a radiant complexion but also improved vitality.
Cosmetic acupuncture is considered an addition to holistic health acupuncture and the two work seamlessly to address the root cause of common skin and ageing concerns. This holistic approach to health and beauty can only be provided by a qualified acupuncturist with specialised training in cosmetic or facial acupuncture techniques, so it is therefore advised to only seek out this treatment from fully trained and accredited practitioners.
Benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture
Cosmetic acupuncture promotes collagen production, improving skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles naturally.
By targeting specific acupuncture points, the treatment helps alleviate stress and tension, contributing to a relaxed and youthful appearance.
Improved blood flow to the face nourishes the skin, giving it a healthy glow and promoting cell regeneration.
Unlike Botox, which focuses solely on cosmetic results, acupuncture addresses the root cause of skin issues, aiming to balance the body's energy for overall well-being.
Why Choose Cosmetic Acupuncture over Botox and Fillers?
Cosmetic acupuncture involves minimal risk compared to the potential side effects associated with injectables. There are no chemicals or foreign substances entering the body, reducing the risk of adverse reactions.
Unlike Botox, which can lead to a frozen or unnatural appearance, cosmetic acupuncture preserves facial expressions while still providing a youthful boost.
While individual results may vary, many individuals experience longer-lasting effects with cosmetic acupuncture compared to the temporary results of Botox and fillers.
Cosmetic acupuncture requires no downtime or recovery period, allowing individuals to resume their daily activities immediately after treatment.
What to expect during a treatment
At your initial consultation we will discuss your medical history and any health concerns that you may have. We will then discuss the areas of the face that you would like to specifically look at and map out a strategy.
The treatment will begin with a facial cleanse followed by gentle massage. I will then begin to insert needles on the body at points that will help to rebalance your Qi and promote internal healing and balance. These points will be chosen specifically for you based on our consultation and your individual concerns.
Once the body points have been needled, I will begin to insert needles on the face, targeting the areas that we have discussed. The needles will be left for a total of 30 minutes.
Once the needles have been removed, I will apply a series of Medik8 products including: Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, moisturiser, and SPF. All products used are of cosmeceutical grade and therefore the best for your skin.
The total appointment time will be approximately 90 minutes.
You should see great results after one session but often a course of 8-12 sessions is recommended for more visible and lasting results. Aftercare advice and recommendations will be discussed with you.
Fees and availability
Single appointments cost £120. A course of six treatments costs £675.
